Whether you or your child need braces to get perfect straight teeth, or for a more serious problem with occlusion (bite), Harlingen Family Dentistry offers the expertise to handle the job.
Dental braces—also known as orthodontic braces, or just braces—are a device used to align teeth properly.
They can be used to correct such problems as underbites, overbites, crooked teeth and other flaws of teeth and jaws, whether the problems are cosmetic or structural. Braces are more commonly used with children and teens, but many adults also choose them. Braces are a custom-fitted device that applies light pressure that pushes teeth in the desired direction in a series of steps.
The device is adjusted or updated regularly as teeth move in steps toward the final appearance. An average treatment time is about 2 ½ years, although it can take more or less time depending on the type of device and the severity of the problem.
After the braces are removed, patients continue maintenance care with retainers and regular checkups that keep the teeth from moving back to their old positions. Traditional braces are made of metal—usually stainless steel or an amalgam—with a wire arch and ligaments that provide the pressure.
Harlingen Family Dental also offers Invisalign invisible braces—clear plastic forms that apply pressure, and updated in steps every couple of weeks to move the teeth further toward the goal. Many adults who choose braces love Invisalign because the braces aren’t obvious and can be removed for eating.
We are experts at aligning teeth using either traditional braces or Invisalign.
